Kit Setup 2

An alternate setup I've been experimenting with lately is shown above, with the toms pushed over to the left, which makes ride cymbal playing easier! Configuration of components is largely identical to the other setup, though note the 16" A Swish (with rivets) to the far left, and the snare drum is a Noble & Cooley Alloy Classic 6¼x14".

Kit Setup 3

My jazz kit is much simpler, and consists of the 10", 12" and 14" toms (usually just the 10" and 14", actually), a 14x18" bass drum (no hole in front head, of course) and darker, "jazzier" cymbals. Shown here is a pair of 14" New Beat hihats (I now have an "Old K" made in Istanbul for the top which sounds great), a 17" K Dark Thin crash, a 20" Pre-Aged K ride and an 18" Pre-Aged K ride with 2 rivets installed that I often use on the left side as a crash/ride. I also use K Constantinople rides and crashes (20" Medium ride, 22" Medium Thin High ride; 16", 18" crashes) I more typically use now on jazz gigs, as well as an ultra-dark and wonderful-sounding "Old K" 20" ride. The snare drum shown here is a Ludwig Black Beauty 5x14" that I customized with die-cast hoops and a Nickel Drumworks snare throwoff.
